She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Psychology at Liberty University. She then earned a Master of Arts degree in
Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. As a veteran of the US Army and subsequent military spouse, Sheila is passionate about working with current members of the military community and veterans of the Armed Forces. She enjoys working with adults 65+ and addressing the specific issues of those in this stage of life. Additionally, she is passionate about being a culturally competent clinician,
she is inclusive and provides a safe and supportive environment for clients to feel seen, heard, and valued. She has experience in residential and outpatient treatment settings, specifically treating substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Sheila's clinical interests are anxiety,
depression, substance use disorders, life transitions, stress, trauma, grief, self-worth, sexual abuse, women's issues, relationship and marital concerns, and personality disorders. She believes that effective counseling happens with a collaborative, client-centered approach and understands that the therapeutic
relationship is fundamental in the therapeutic process. Her goal as a therapist is to meet people where they are and walk alongside them to where they want to be. She fosters a non-judgmental and empathetic environment where clients feel accepted, understood, and empowered regardless of their
struggles. Drawing from various therapeutic models, her treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, person-centered therapy, art therapy, play therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Practices. Sheila uses an integrative approach to assist clients in embracing their strengths, overcoming barriers, and making positive
change.
